Acidification and Pain - Causes, Symptoms & Therapy

Many patients suffer fromjoint and muscle pain that is exacerbated by acidification of the body. We show causes, symptoms and natural treatment options.

Exercise and Nutrition

Nowadays, we move too little and mostly in a very one-sided way. In addition, there are also one-sided eating habits.

Effects on Joint Cartilage

As a result, the joint cartilage is exposed to too few pressure fluctuations and there is constant pressure on the tissue, which also compresses neighboring structures such as nerve fibers, lymph and blood vessels. In addition, water as a transport medium is missing.

Fluid exchange takes place too rarely and, when it does, the proteins and nutrients contained in the joint fluid are not sufficient due to one-sided dietary preferences to adequately meet the needs.

The cells die or switch to an energy-saving mode if they can. Burning sugar is not as effective as oxygen utilization, but better than nothing.

Even normal metabolic processes produce acids as waste products, but without sufficient oxygen and vital substances, significantly more acids are produced.

Cells can only maintain this intermediate state for a limited time, as they need an alkaline environment for their metabolism.

The body tries to maintain a tissue pH of 7.4 at all costs and has various strategies for this.

One solution is to bind the acids with numerous substances, i.e. to crystallize them out, and to shift and deposit this salt-crystal waste in the joint tissue and surrounding connective tissue.

The sharp-edged hard crystals cause more joint abrasion and lead to joint arthrosis. Crystal deposits in the connective tissue reduce joint elasticity and flexibility.

What is acidification?

Acidification is a deviation DOWN from the average neutral pH of 7.4. The body maintains a blood pH value within the narrow range of 7.35-7.45. Below this is called acidosis. Above this is called alkalosis.

All body systems are so finely tuned that this value in the BLOOD is maintained at all costs, i.e. if the value falls below the critical mark of 7.35, all buffer systems are exhausted and the state of the organism is life-threatening – leading to clouding of consciousness – coma – cardiac arrest.

Clinically more significant is a 'latent' acidosis, which cannot yet be measured in the blood by pH, in which all systems are running at full speed and the acid flood in the blood and tissue is attempted to be eliminated via the excretory organs lungs, intestines, skin and kidneys, or acids are bound with other bases to render them harmless.

These neutralized acids are shifted and deposited as crystal waste in the connective tissue and fat. The tissue fluid pH is therefore disturbed earlier than the blood pH.

To replenish the missing base reserves, the body's own reserves are attacked and mineral salts stored in bones and teeth are released – but also from the hair roots, connective tissue and blood vessels. Minerals are saved everywhere.

How can you recognize acidification?

The symptoms are varied and range from brittle nails, thin hair, wrinkled, dimpled skin and subcutaneous tissue, skin problems such as eczema, neurodermatitis, acne, fungal diseases, stretch marks, varicose veins, circulatory problems and high blood pressure due to rigid arteriosclerotic vessel walls and cardiac arrhythmias to osteoporosis, caries, joint and limb pain, tension due to reduced flexibility and elasticity of the fascia and connective tissue, muscle cramps, headaches, sleep disorders, fatigue, tiredness, irritability, concentration problems, malaise, stomach problems, increased allergy susceptibility and uric acid crystals up to stone formation such as kidney, bladder, gall and fecal stones.

It is important that complaints of a 'functional' nature, i.e. where there have not yet been changes in the tissue, can be well eliminated.

These complaints arise because stores are empty, deficiency symptoms exist and metabolism is slowed down.

Structural changes can no longer be reversed later.

Symptoms of acidification:

  • Fatigue
  • Motivation problems
  • Konzentrationsprobleme
  • Skin problems
  • Hair problems
  • Muscle pain
  • Digestive problems
  • Stomach problems

What are the causes of acidification?

Anything that is one-sided in terms of

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Thinking

And additionally nowadays due to insufficient vital substance composition of food caused by more intensive land use, depleted soils and so-called more effective cultivation and production methods, unripe harvested fruit and vegetables, long storage times and transport routes.

  • Stress in all forms
  • Restrictive thought patterns
  • Psychosocial factors
  • Living in metropolitan areas

Changed living conditions such as

  • Staying in closed rooms
  • Artificial light
  • Electrosmog
  • Lack of sleep
  • Work overload
  • Changed sleep-wake rhythm
  • Constant media exposure
  • Media with violent content
  • Drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, coffee, narcotics
  • But also sugar, table salt
  • Environmental pollution from chemicals and pesticides in food, air, water, clothing, home textiles, cosmetics, building materials and wood
  • Medications
  • Dental fillings and materials

Life is always associated with stress – what matters is how much stress there is and how you and your body deal with stress, i.e. how high is the individual capacity to neutralize stress.

Treating acidification: Natural methods and therapeutic approaches

The top principle is therefore to increase the capacity for deacidification, detoxification and regeneration.

Again, the 3 levers – we all have them in our hands:

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Thinking

About nutrition

The higher quality, more natural and more alkaline our diet is, the better.

The representations are strictly speaking incorrect.

What is correct is that the foods and stimulants shown on the 'acidic side' contain acids that cannot be easily excreted or rendered harmless by the body and make the body 'acidic'.

The foods shown on the 'alkaline side' also contain acids, but 'volatile' ones, i.e. acids that are easily excreted. Consequently, these foods burden the organism much less.

About exercise

The more varied, different and frequent we move our bodies, the better. That is, for example, for a joint in all possible directions of movement.

Contrary to popular belief, stretching is more important here than muscle training.

Exercise and sport have a positive side effect through relaxation and the automatic breakdown of stress hormones.

Exercise generally increases the blood flow to organs and tissues and facilitates the removal of metabolic waste products.

About thinking

The more relaxed I can deal with the demands of life, the less my brain stress axis via the organs pituitary gland – hypothalamus – thyroid – adrenal gland is challenged or overstrained and has enough time to recover again and again.

Less stress hormones also mean more relaxed vessels and better tissue blood flow.

Methods for relaxation are, for example, breathing exercises, autogenic training, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, spending time in nature or pursuing a hobby that is fun and fulfilling.

A tip here is to position yourself as an active creator of your life, i.e. not to see yourself as a victim or always find excuses or justifications for yourself. It is important to focus on your strengths and to align yourself positively and to bring the positive into the world yourself that you would like to see in it.

Recommendations

Remember: We all have the levers in our own hands!

Drinking water

The simplest measure, i.e. sufficiently much and enough and in the form of drinks that provide 'free water' as a transport medium – that is mainly water – and not coffee, soft drinks or alcohol.

We consist of about 70% (up to 80% in young years) water – it is not only a transport medium but also a detoxifying and information-transmitting medium. For vital substances, it is important to supply vitamins, minerals and trace elements in sufficient quantities and from natural sources.

The body recognizes and can utilize natural, unprocessed forms better, so they are more bioavailable than synthetic single substances. Antioxidants, the so-called OPCs, i.e. polyphenols, are radical scavengers.

Supply healthy fats, i.e. omega-3 fatty acids, so that the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids returns to a 4:1 balance. Omega-3 fats are not so stable, become rancid quickly and are scarce in our diet.

If omega-6 predominates in the body for metabolic processes, more precursors for inflammatory processes, the so-called arachidonic acids, are produced than with a more balanced composition of fats.

Krill oil is also more anti-inflammatory than fish oil.

Black seed or nigella oil is also strongly antioxidative.

MSM, organic sulfur, helps with detoxification throughout the body – including the brain – through its sulfur group (thiol, SH-). Even very high amounts (70 g) are harmless.

The body stores large amounts as a reserve and excretes MSM without problems via the kidneys and skin.

All important amino acids in the body such as cysteine, cystine, methionine, taurine and the most important substance for detoxification in the blood, glutathione, are sulfur group donors (so-called sulfur donors).

Therefore, it is not surprising that MSM helps with pain, inflammation, allergies and even autoimmune reactions, i.e. misguided immune reactions of the body in which cells attack and destroy the body's own tissue. Sulfur is crucial for the elasticity of connective tissue.

Sulfur is present in high concentration in connective tissue and gives it elasticity. Connective tissue is not only known as a supporting and structuring substance but increasingly also as a bioinformation transmission network.

Unfortunately, organic sulfur is lost during food processing, even though a lot of protein is consumed in this country.

Therefore, MSM should be used in every pain treatment.

Unfortunately, this is not taught in conventional medicine.

Red fruits

Red, violet or blue color components in fruit and vegetables contain flavonoids (also called polyphenols or anthocyanins). They are present in high concentration in the outer skins and protect the fruit itself from oxygen radicals. Their consumption has antioxidant effects, which can be measured by faster regeneration and wound healing, anti-inflammatory effects, lower oxygen consumption in the muscles, reduced uric acid formation and better and longer sleep due to increased melatonin production.

Calcium – magnesium – potassium are alkaline-acting minerals. In the non-ionized state, the pH value is 7.35 – i.e. slightly alkaline. In the ionized state, it is pH 9.45 – i.e. strongly alkaline.

Nutritional supplements for joints (magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, collagen hydrolysate, silicon)

It is important to know that this product makes sense as a supplement to a basic supply of vital substances that contains all important nutrients and supports the tissue in becoming alkaline. On top of that, you can dose special substances higher so that the damaged cartilage and connective tissue can regenerate even better.

Heat applications, e.g.: bath, sauna

Generally known, increases blood circulation and promotes increased blood flow to the tissue and thus also the removal of metabolic products.

Supplement

Avoid long-term use of gastric protection medications, so-called H2 blockers. These inhibit stomach acid production, so one way of excreting excess acids is blocked, which promotes acidification.

Likewise, the breakdown of food and killing of germs (bacteria, viruses, parasites) is insufficient due to lack of stomach acid, which impairs digestion and leads to inadequate breakdown of food.

Preventing acidification: Tips for prevention

It makes sense to work preventively and support the body so that acidification does not occur in the first place.

It is important to remember that the body can compensate for 70% of deficiency situations without appearing 'ill'.

If symptoms occur, the body is already out of balance and action is needed to avoid serious consequences that can then no longer be treated so easily.
